An innovative approach in the diagnosis and therapy of hearing and speech or language disorders

Published 26.07.2017.

Centar za kvalitetno obrazovanjeWithin the standing invitation for proposals for improving the position of persons with disabilities in the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans’ and Social Affairs supported the projects of the Center for Quality Education that strengthened the capacities of the Dragan Kovačević elementary school from Belgrade and the School and Residence for Pupils with Impaired Hearing from Kragujevac for the application of innovative approaches in the rehabilitation of hearing and speech and language disorders.

The use of a digital speech therapy set enables reducing and eliminating communication and vocal/linguistic/speech difficulties in students with varying degrees of hearing impairment, underdeveloped vocal communication, and pathological patterns of vocal communication.

The digital speech therapy set involves a new method in the processing of sounds. Its application does not exclude the use of traditional methods in rehabilitation—on the contrary, it can be used with any method or method of rehabilitation. In addition to the application in diagnostics and therapy, the digital set also allows for improved quality that includes group work and rhythmic and musical exercises. By introducing additional auditory stimuli to rehabilitation such as music, listening to stories, and the like, the rehabilitation becomes more interesting for children and allows greater creativity for the therapist.

The introduction of information technology in many aspects accelerates and enhances the process rehabilitation. Reducing and eliminating communication and vocal/linguistic/speech difficulties and disorders in students with intellectual and developmental disabilities contributes to their increased socialization, easier integration in the community, and exercising the right to equal opportunities.
