Competition for the Annual Media Award for Tolerance Published (Deadline: 5/9/2017)

Poverenik za zaštitu ravnopravnosti - logoOn the occasion of 16 November, International Day for Tolerance, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, supported by OSCE Mission in Serbia, will award the best media articles and reports on combating discrimination and promotion of equality and tolerance with Annual Media Award, for the third year in a row. The objective of the competition is media promotion of values such as equality, tolerance, suppression of prejudice and stereotypes towards minorities, excluded and vulnerable groups, as well as increasing the visibility of the Institution.

Journalists from all printed and electronic media, local and national, registered in Serbia, who published articles covering topics relevant to the competition in the period between 5 September 2016 and 5 September 2017, are eligible to apply.

Media articles and reports should be sent between 5 June and 5 September 2017 to poverenik@ravnopravnost.gov.rs.

Winners of the first prize will visit one of the European media houses that have demonstrated good practice in reporting on human rights.

Awards will be given in three categories:

  • First, second and third for radio/TV report;
  • First, second and third for printed/online article;
  • First, second and third for radio/TV reportage lasting up to 30 min.

Since last year, students of journalism from accredited state and private faculties in Serbia, have the right to participate provided they have articles / reports in student media, with topics and formats prescribed by the competition, published between 5 September 2016 and 5 September 2017. They will compete outside of the mentioned categories and winners will be awarded the Certificate of Appreciation.

The best media reports and the names of their authors will be announced on 16 November 2017, after which they will be published on the web sites and Facebook pages of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and OSCE Mission in Serbia.
