Contract on Cooperation in Construction of 15 Facilities in Šabac for Forced Migrants Signed

Published 05.06.2015.

potpisivanje_ugovora_sabacRepresentatives of the City of Šabac, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migrations of the Republic of Serbia and the Housing Centre signed the Contract on Cooperation in the Construction of Prefabricated Housing Facilities within the territory of the City of Šabac during a ceremony on 2 June.

The prefabricated housing facilities will be constructed as part of the project “Support to Improving the Living Conditions of Forced Migrants in Serbia and the Closing of Collective Centres” financed by the European Union Delegation to Serbia from IPA 2012 pre-accession funds. The goals of the project are to improve the social inclusion of socially vulnerable persons and the families of refugees, internally displaced persons and readmission returnees housed at the Varna collective centre and the most vulnerable local population, and to help close the Varna collective centre in Šabac.

The city of Šabac provided four infrastructurally equipped parcels of land on quality locations in the city for the construction of the prefabricated facilities. The Commissariat for Refugees and Migrations is coordinating the process of closing the Varna collective centre.

The project is implemented by the Housing Centre NGO, in partnership with the Initiative for Development and Cooperation IDC.

The users of the prefabricated housing facilities to be built within the project will be socially vulnerable families from the Varna collective centre and the most vulnerable families from the local populations, who will gain the conditions for quality living upon moving into these facilities. The prefabricated housing facilities will be furnished with the basic equipment and furniture.

The value of the works on the construction and furnishing of the facilities is around EUR 285,000. The end of construction is planned for November 2015. The project is part of a more comprehensive programme financed by the European Union supporting the improvement of the living conditions of forced migrants – “For Better Living”, with a total value of EUR 14.2 million.
