Published 13.05.2015.

Teatrom protiv nasiljaThe Centre for the Development of Informal Education of Citizens (CRNOG) with the financial assistance of the European Commission and in partnership with the United Nations Fund for Population (UNFPA) implemented the project Theatre against Violence between May 2014 and May 2015 across five cities in Serbia – Sombor (North Serbia), Bujanovac (South Serbia), Novi Pazar (Southwest Serbia), Prokuplje (Southeast Serbia) and Bor (East Serbia). The cities were chosen based on their geographic position, multiethnicity and multiculturality present in many of them. The project results achieved were recently presented at the UNS Press Centre.

The project consisted of four components:

The show “Violence Has No Justification” by author and director Zijah Sokolović, showing 120 forms of violence in 45 minutes, adapted to young people, created as a form of education through theatre in cooperation with pedagogues and psychologists. Discussions were held after every show.

Healthcare worker education on abuse and neglect of children and education of activists from cities on techniques of public speaking and community organization, undertaken in accordance with the Harvard methodology.

Campaigns across the cities (Violence against Women, Peer Violence, Internet Violence, Violence in Stadiums), implemented by activists across five cities, trained in techniques of public speaking and community organization in accordance with the Harvard methodology.

Website “Violence Has No Justification” (www.nasiljenemaopravdanja.org), designed as a unique online space where citizens posted video records in the form of personal stories regarding violence and could be informed on forms of violence, how to recognize them, whom to turn to for support and to read news.

Results achieved:

30 shows played, seen by 3000 young people from the cities. In each of the cities, before the show, we organized auditions for young actors.

100 healthcare workers and 75 activists from the cities trained.

30 activists participated in the campaigns, calling attention to the specific problem of violence in a given town through performances in stadiums and street activities

After 8 months of operation the website was visited by 16,000 people, with 12,000 unique visits
