You hold before you the new, amended edition of the social development index of towns and municipalities. Data for 2017 has now been added, thus the Index is now available for seven years (2011-2017). After all the methodological supplements and corrections during the past several years, the Index is now stable and comparable through time. This year's edition of the Social Development Index provides for the representation of results on an interactive map, and monitoring social development trends at the local self-government level.

The Social Development Index provides the capability of comparing quality of life per town and municipality, sortable, depending on personal priorities, under six areas: demographics, economic activity, education, social protection, healthcare, other indicators of the quality of life and social participation.
The Social Development Index is a composite index enabling the comparison of the achieved level of social development among towns and municipalities in the Republic of Serbia. The Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit initiated the development of the methodology and application aiming to make this type of tool available to all interested users, from decision makers and policy creators, to independent researchers and analysts.
The Index covers the period 2011-2017 and all towns and municipalities in the Republic of Serbia.

The web application is optimized to work on even the slowest of internet connections, making it accessible to a wide audience.
* The Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia does not dispose of data for AP Kosovo i Metohija as of 1999,
therefore municipalities from the territory of AP Kosovo and Metohija have not been covered by the Social Development Index of Towns and Municipalities.
