The goal of the survey is to collect data on household income, expenditures and consumption, i.e. data on the basic elements of individual consumption. The survey also collects data on some key living standard indicators (housing conditions, availability of durable consumer goods and the like), as well as the basic data on demographic, economic and social characteristics of households.
The Household Budget Survey covers households in the territory of the Republic of Serbia (permanent population). Every fifteen days, 200 households are surveyed, totalling 4,800 households in one year.
Since 2003, the Household Budget Survey has been conducted in accordance with international standards and recommendations of Eurostat (Household Budget Surveys in the EU, Methodology and Recommendation for Harmonization 2003), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations, thus ensuring international data comparability.
