The Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government announced that the total of 8,902 candidates applied to the open call for the IT Sector Retraining course.
The retraining programme will be implemented in three major cities in Serbia. Therefore, the participants had the opportunity to select the city where they would complete the training. In Belgrade, the training will be attended by 62% of candidates, 24% of candidates will be in Novi Sad, and 14% in Niš.
The retraining project aims to increase the number of IT juniors on the market in order to compensate for the insufficient workforce. The project is based on the results of the survey performed by the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government in partnership with Infostud in January; the survey included 118 IT companies.
The first, pilot phase will provide training for 100 selected candidates, and the main phase would provide training for the additional 900 candidates. If the pilot phase gets a positive assessment, the second one will be implemented in late 2017. The criterion for measuring the success of the programme is how fast the candidates find employment in the IT industry following the completed course.
The Training Programme will start in April, and it will last between two and four months.
