Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and President of the Coordination Body for monitoring the implementation of the Strategy for the Social Inclusion of Roma Zorana Mihajlović held a discussion on 5 April with the new General Secretary of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Majlinda Bregu about the integration of the Roma population in society.
Mihajlović, having signed an Agreement with Bregu about the establishment and work of the Action Team of the Regional Cooperation Council for Roma Integration 2020, noted that the inclusion of the Roma community in society is a priority for the Government of Serbia, showing the existence of political will to improve the status of this population.
She noted that all citizens of Serbia should be informed about the status of the Roma community, from the way its members live, whether they finish school, whether they can find jobs, to the joint struggle to break prejudice and stereotypes that dominate society.
Bregu expressed gratitude to the Government of Serbia and Mrs Mihajlović for the support they provide for the successful social integration of Roma, assessing that the above agreement will provide a further impetus for work on their integration.
She stated that the signed Agreement provides for the continued implementation of a project aimed at resolving all the issues of importance for the Roma community, such as housing and employment.
