On September 29, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and the President of the Coordination Body for Gender Equality, Zorana Mihajlović invited all citizens and state institutions to do everything in their power not to let the violence endured by M.F. (21) from Kaluđerica happen again.

Mihajlović stated that the gruesome photos of the woman, long abused by her partner, who has since then been arrested by the police, could have been prevented if the people who knew what was going in their neighborhood reported the abuse. She added that this could have also been prevented if the state institutions responsible for protecting women from violence had been more alert.

– This is why I am asking everyone to report abuse because that is the only way we can save lives of the women who are being abused, this type of torture cannot be anyone’s private matter, highlighted Mihajlović.
