The Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with the Ombudsman and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, has prepared a brochure on the Award for Contributions to the Development of All Forms of Accessibility 2017/18.
The Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit, the Ombudsman, and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities have established an award two years ago for local self-government units that have contributed the most during the past calendar year to the development of all forms of accessibility within their territory. The goal of the award is promoting good practices and public commendation of activities by local self-governments leading to the improvement of urban environments so that they become accessible, safe and comfortable for all citizens. Furthermore, the goals of this initiative include determining the situation in the field of accessibility and the reasons why regulations guaranteeing the right to the accessibility of public facilities and services for persons with disabilities and mobility or communication impairments are not being applied in full, as well as the formulation of recommendations and plans for improving the situation in this field.
We hope the initiatives presented in this brochure will serve as an inspiration for decision makers, experts and representatives of non-government organizations for improving practices and creating an inclusive environment that responds to the needs of various social groups.
