The increased competitiveness of the domestic economy and the development of high-tech companies are a common goal of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and representatives of business incubators and science-technology parks, as stated in the conclusions of the Forum organized by the EUBID project – European Union Business Incubator Development support.
Since 2000 the EU has been investing money, human resources and knowledge in the competitiveness and promotion of innovation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Serbia. Over EUR 200 million has been invested in various projects to this day, says Programme Manager of the EU Delegation to Serbia Dejan Šuvakov.
Assistant Minister of Economy Katarina Obradović Jovanović says that progress is noticeable in the segment of business incubators.
“Today, we are in a situation where we do not have to deal with the infrastructure of business incubators, we can pay more attention to the next development phase, the improvement of the quality of their services. It is precisely in this segment that we are counting on support by this project”, says Obradović Jovanović.
The success of the project, she says, will be measured through the success of the beneficiary companies that will, as they develop, bring about new products, services and jobs. The idea is to focus on incubators supporting innovation and self-employment.
The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Finance (Department for Contracting and Financing Programmes from European Union Funds), with a significant role in the development of innovation to be held by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, as well as the Office for Innovation and Technological Development.
