Tim za socijalno uključivanje i smanjenje siromaštva

The City Municipality of Vračar is the recipient of the award presented for the fourth time by the Ombudsman, in cooperation with the Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities – National Association of Local Authorities in Serbia, to cities, municipalities and city municipalities in the Republic of Serbia that provided the greatest contribution in the previous year to the development of all forms of accessibility in their respective territory or community.

The award was presented to this city municipality for its continuous effort to promote accessibility through the implementation of the activities planned for 2019 in the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Accessibility Promotion Strategy of the City Municipality of Vračar 2018–2025.

The award for continuous effort in the timely planning and promotion of accessibility was presented to the Municipality of Svilajnac, while the award for the contribution to promoting the city core accessibility was given to the City of Niš.

The award competition was entered by 10 cities, municipalities and city municipalities. Based on the reviewed video materials about the candidate initiatives and on the video conferences held with the representatives of the shortlisted cities, municipalities and city municipalities, the Award Committee announced the Award Decision.

In this way, the Ombudsman aims to promote good practices in the area of accessibility at the local level, as well as to enhance its cooperation with local self-governments in the Republic of Serbia in order to determine the state of affairs in the area of accessibility and identify the reasons why the regulations that guarantee the right to accessibility of public buildings and services for persons with disabilities and movement or communication difficulties are not fully implemented. Moreover, this initiative provides valuable information relevant for the formulation of recommendations and plans for accessibility promotion activities within the mandate of cities, municipalities and city municipalities.

The presentation of the awards, accolades, certificates of acknowledgment and appreciation to local self-governments will be organised on 30 October 2020.
