Connecting Youth is Key for Progress in the Region

Published 29.06.2018.

RYFOn 29 June 2018, in Novi Sad, Prime Minister Ana Brnabić said that she was an optimist with regard to the issue of Western Balkans and that she believed there was a chance it could become a place where new investments are made.

Speaking at the opening of the Third Regional Youth Forum at the Matica Srpska Gallery in Novi Sad, Brnabić stated that at the moment there was a large number of initiatives for regional cooperation, on the political and economic level, and reminded everyone that the dialogue between young people could also be managed through the “Berlin process” of which the Forum was part.

She urged young people to do everything they could to ensure progress and development, both personal and social.

Brnabić remained that next year Novi Sad would become the European Youth Capital, and in 2021 it would become the European Capital of Culture, and that through these two themes, it would be possible to overcome the difficult issues of the region.

The Secretary General of the Regional Youth Coordination Office (RYCO), Mr Đuro Blanuša greeted the participants which came from all over the region by expressing his confidence that, in the next three days, they would try to find the answers on how to make Europe more present in the region and vice versa.

The Third Regional Youth Forum represents a part of the official programme of the upcoming Summit in London which will be held on 9 and 10 July.

Conclusions defined during this forum will be presented at the annual Summit within the “Berlin Process”, as well as at the 8th Belgrade Security Forum and Bled Strategic Forum.

The Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Serbia was the general sponsor of the Forum.

This year’s Forum was organised by the European Movement in Serbia – Local Branch Novi Sad, the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence and the European Fund for Balkan in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) – Open Regional Founds for South-East Europe for the Promotion of EU Integration and the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO).

The Forum was also supported by the Government of Great Britain, the City of Novi Sad, the Provincial Government of Vojvodina, and the Regional Cooperation Council.
