State secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Nenad Ivanišević, announced on 18 July in Subotica that the Government of the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with donors, will set up containers for migrant housing in Subotica and Kanjiža.
At the abandoned brick factory where the migrants reside, on the occasion of handing out humanitarian aid, Ivanišević announced that the containers in Subotica will be set up in cooperation with a donor from Germany, and in Kanjiža in cooperation with a donor from Switzerland.
He stated that migrants will be able to sleep and bathe in those containers, medical personnel will be present, while the Fund for an Open Society will pay for new interpreters.
He added that Kanjiža has received approval by the Ministry of Justice for using the old court building, while a certain number of containers will also be set up in the yard of the police station, in order to improve the conditions for those migrants returned to Kanjiža through readmission.
The state secretary added that it is the intention of the competent bodies that the migrants will be provided with a continued provision of supplies.
