Consultations with representatives of the business community regarding the development of a new National Classification of Occupations were held in the premises of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and industry during 25-27 September. The consultations were implemented in the form of roundtables with employers from all branches of the economy, organized by the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
For a long time the economy, as well as numerous institutions in Serbia, have faced problems in their everyday work due to the lack of a classification of occupations corresponding to the needs of the market. The existing Unified Nomenclature of Occupations has been in use since 1990, and does not cover new occupations continuously and ever more rapidly appearing in the market. The above roundtables served to present the representatives of the business community with a draft new list of occupations and the methodological basis for drafting it, with the aim of obtaining proposals and suggestions for its improvement in line with the needs of a modern economy.
The draft list of occupations and the conceptual framework that were presented to employers have been harmonized with the International Standard for Occupations ISCO-08, prepared by a working group comprised of representatives of relevant institutions, chaired by the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.
