The Minister of State Administration and Local Government, Kori Udovički called the elections for members of national minority councils in Serbia for 26 October. Members of councils will be elected directly by 17 ethnic minorities, while four minorities will select their representatives via electronic assembly. Members of ethnic minorities exercise their Constitutional right to cultural self-government in the areas of culture, informing, use of language and education through ethnic councils.
In all 21 national minority council will be elected and the conditons for direct elections were fulfilled by 17 ethnic minorities, while the electronic voting will be used for election of representatives of four ethnic minorities – Polish, Macedonian, Montenegrin and Croatia.The councils are elected for the period of four years.
