According to a French study published on January 11, the percentage of women without children in Europe is growing, especially in countries in the South of the continent which are affected by economic problems; however, it has not reached the record from the beginning of the 20th century.
“The effective contraception, later pregnancies, greater instability of relationships, the desire to find employment which is becoming less stable, and the growing economic uncertainty” could all contribute to the decline in fertility rates, according to the analysis.
The fastest increase in infertility rate has been recorded in southern Europe. In Spain, Greece, and Italy, for example, one in four women born in the seventies are without children.
