The European competition of the best student companies was held from 11 to 13 July in Brussels, and it was attended by more than 200 high school students from 36 countries.
Serbia was represented by LegoBuzz from the First Gymnasium of Kragujevac, which in May this year won the national competition of student companies organized by Junior Achievement in Serbia.
In the 2016/17 school year, more than 300,000 high school students from 40 European countries participated in the Student Company program, and more than 100 companies in secondary schools across the country were launched in Serbia alone.
Students who are “employees” of these companies during the school year acquire knowledge about market economy and entrepreneurship through the Junior Achievement programs and run their companies from the launch to the production of company reports and closing of the companies.
The high school students from Kragujevac held a remarkable presentation at the Brussels competition, where they introduced their unique product: a frame equipped with sensors that turns any hive into a smart hive, while the beekeeper can monitor the state and location of his or her bee colony at all times.
The two-day competition was an opportunity for high school students from all over Europe to present their entrepreneurial ideas to numerous guests, including King Philip of Belgium, EU commissioners, Belgian ministers, as well as the Serbian Ambassador to Brussels, Vesna Arsić, as well as ManpowerGroup Serbia’s CEO, Aleksandar Hangimana.
Despite not winning the group award in Brussels, the student company from Kragujevac earned notable recognition: Jovana Mališić was chosen to be part of a small group of students who had a chance to talk to the King of Belgium in a closed session, and the following day she was named one of the top ten young leaders of Europe.
