As part of the activities of the development programme European PROGRES aimed at supporting gender equality and economic empowerment of women through creating new workplaces, a public call was issued for awarding grants for starting businesses owned by women and lead by women. The European Union and Government of Switzerland earmarked a total of 400,000 euros for supporting 40 projects. The public call will be open until 24 July 2015.
The right of participation is to be held by unemployed women registered in the records of the National Employment Service at the time of publishing the public call for at least three continuous months, having permanent residence and planning to start a business in one of the 34 municipalities or towns in the southeast and southwest of Serbia included in the implementation of the European PROGRES programme.
The programme will support businesses in the field of production and service provision and all projects will be selected through a transparent and competitive process. The projects will be selected based on their relevance, expected outcomes and sustainability after their expiry. The highest amount that may be approved per project is 10,000 euros, and the lowest 1,500 euros. The European PROGRES will not award financial grants, but will procure machines, equipment and other durable goods required to start a business to the approved amount.
In order to introduce the conditions of the call, the European PROGRES held seven information sessions during the period between 26 March and 8 April in the southeast and southwest of Serbia. Likewise, in May the programme held nine trainings for drafting business plans for all interested candidates aiming to prepare them to submit project proposals as part of the public call.
More information on the call as well as detailed documentation for applying is available at the website of the European PROGRES.
