On 27 April, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Vladimir Ilić opened the “Family Housing as Support to Biological Family” conference organised by the Provincial Institute for Social Protection.
The State Secretary, Vladimir Ilić reminded everyone that Serbia was one of the leading countries and one of the most successful countries in the region with regard to the number of children placed in foster families instead of institutions. In 2016, 762 children were placed in institutions, while 5,303 were placed in foster families.
Through IPA funds, and with the help and support of UNICEF, certain services such as temporary family accommodation, kinship foster care, and family outreach workers were developed. Furthermore, institutions in Serbia employ the service of temporary accommodation for children with disabilities.
