The fifth meeting of the Open Working Group on Ageing was held in the seat of the United Nations in New York 30 July to 1 August. At the invitation of Danielle Bass, UNDESA director, the representatives of the Red Cross of Serbia participated in this meeting. Doctor Milutin Vračević, as a panelist, reported on financial abuse of older women.
The Open Workign Group on Ageing functions within the UN and was established on the basis of the UNGA Resolution 65/182 of 21 Decmeber 2010. The Group aims to facilitate a discussion on the rights of the elderly and possibilities of implementation of human rights mechanisms for this specific category. The civil society organisations may take part in the process by influencing the public policy decision-makers through provision of information about the rights of the elderly and advocacy towards their implementation at national level.
