The Institution of the Protector of Citizens of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina – Ombudsman hosted the final conference, within the project “Gender Equality and Disaster Risk Mitigation”, in the Assembly of AP of Vojvodina on November 20. The project was realized during 2015 with the support of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).
The influence of disasters on the economy and the social sphere of the societies struck by disasters is extremely destructive. Therefore, planning the Strategies for Disaster Risk Mitigation as well as recovery from their consequences is of extreme importance. Due to their specific life experience, UN pays a special attention to inclusion of women as well as persons with disabilities and older persons in the processes of effective planning of disaster risk mitigation and improvement of subsequent living conditions.
