The European Investment Fund (EIF) and the New Economy Foundation (NEF) signed the first social entrepreneurship contract, aiming to support 300 social enterprises in France involved in the European Union Employment and Social Innovation Programme.
This contract will provide NEF with 33 million euros for assistance to small-sized and social entrepreneurs, many of them finding it difficult to obtain bank loans in the traditional manner. Social enterprises, including fair trade producers, organic food producers and micro-credit beneficiaries in the renewable energy sector, will receive loans and reduced interest.
The scheme of the European Union Employment and social Innovation Programme was initiated in June 2015, financed by the European Commission and led by the European Investment Fund. The Fund also signed a microfinancing contract with NEF, aiming to assist small enterprises.
