The Government of the Republic of Serbia announced that 2,513 students attended the entrance exam for specialised IT classes. The exam was held on 3 June in Serbia, and according to the preliminary results 1,300 students passed the exam and would have the opportunity to enrol in one of the classes.
The number of students who passed the entrance exam is almost five times larger than last year when 280 students passed the exam. The interest in taking the entrance exam is a clear indication that students recognised the potential of the IT industry and they will have the necessary support of the Serbian Government in their future education.
Since the number of students who passed the entrance exam in many cities surpasses the number of available places, it is expected that IT classes will be established in cities throughout Serbia.
According to the latest research, each year around 1,500 new qualified IT professionals appear in the labour market. This number needs to be at least five times larger, to achieve export goals it should be around 7,000 workers per year. The goal of the Serbian Government is to achieve EUR 2.5 billion in IT industry export by 2023. Currently, this sector employs 20,000 workers in Serbia, and the average wage is higher than in other sectors.
