The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) presented the Gender Equality Index 2017 on 11 October in Brussels, covering 28 European Union member states.
The updated Gender Equality Index shows the current state of play in Europe – there is notable progress in achieving gender equality, but it is very slow.
According to the acquired data, the European Union has only four points more than 10 years ago, i.e. 66.2 of a total 100.
The country with the best result is Sweden (82.6 points), while Greece is in last place (50 points). Italy is the country making the greatest progress between 2005 and 2015, increasing its result by 12.9 points.
During the period 2005-2015 the greatest progress was registered in the domain of power (an increase of 9.6 points), while the domain of time is the only domain showing a negative trend (a decrease of 1.0 points).
