A two-day dialogue between the Serbian delegation and the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, regarding the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Serbia was successfully concluded in Geneva.
Serbian delegation highlighted the commitment and the efforts of the state to protect and ensure full and equal rights and fundamental freedoms for persons with disabilities and assured the Committee that it would continue working on improving their status and achieving the objectives of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Committee welcomed the efforts made by Serbia regarding the improvement of the status of persons with disabilities. It was particularly emphasized that with the adoption of the Law on the Use of Sign Language and the Law on the Movement of Blind Persons with the Assistance of Guide Dogs, Serbia has made an important step toward the prevention of discrimination and creation of opportunities for facilitating the exercising of rights and the equal participation of people with disabilities in the community with other members of society.
