Marital and extramarital spouses, registered as owners of common real-estate, have been recognized as a special category of service beneficiaries as of 9 January.
The Republic Geodetic Authority stated that spouses purchasing real estate together, with both names entered in the sales agreement, will be able to register their right over the real estate at the lowest available fee, amounting to RSD 300.
“Spouses have been able to register jointly as owners over real estate before, but they were not recognized as a special category of beneficiaries of cadastral services, therefore they paid the full amount of fees of RSD 9,807, i.e. 8,671”, RGA representatives said.
“Spouses often pay off loan instalments jointly, but the sales agreement often holds only the husband’s name, therefore he is registered in the cadastre as the sole owner of the real estate. Thus the wife’s ownership over the property in the cadastre remains invisible, along with her rights”, they said for Tanjug. This has particularly complex consequences in cases of division of property.
“The registration of both spouses in the real estate cadastre empowers not only women, but the marital union as well”, RGA representatives said.
