The Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Government of the Republic of Serbia Mladen Šarčević and the Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport presented two new history manuals on 20 December, covering the periods of the cold war and the wars during the nineties within the territory of former Yugoslavia.
Speaking at the conference regarding the presentation of the materials for contemporary history classes entitled “History for the Future”, Šarčević stated that the books cover events from these periods, but from varying perspectives by historians from South-East European countries.
The manuals were printed in the English language, with money provided for translation into Serbian, he explained, and added that the line ministry supported the organization of a seminar for history teachers, since the manuals are intended for them.
The manuals, as he elaborated, cover historic events from 1944 to 2008, showing phenomena, persons and events from the period of the cold war and the nineties in the Balkans, but from various perspectives.
The books were developed by the Centre for Democracy and Reconciliation in South-East Europe, having already published four manuals during the preceding period – The Ottoman Empire, Nations and States, Balkan Wars and World War II.
