On 1 December, the Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Zoran Đorđević, stated that his Ministry would implement all necessary measures to improve the living conditions of people living with HIV.
Together with the State Secretary Stana Božović, the Minister participated in the National Conference on Innovative Community-Based Services for People Living with HIV and AIDS, which was held on the occasion of the World AIDS Day.
The Conference addressed the activities of both civil and government sectors in response to the HIV epidemic, especially when it comes to social care, health care and legal assistance to people living with HIV and AIDS (PLHIV), but also prevention and the possibility of stopping the spread of the infection, as well as reducing stigma and discrimination against this population.
The role of the Ministry in the lives of people living with HIV is becoming increasingly important. Next year the Ministry would become actively engaged in the process of improving social care services for people living with this virus in Serbia through the standardization and introduction of innovative forms of community-based services into the social protection system, explained the Minister.
Đorđević said that, based on the conclusions made at the Conference, the Ministry would, within the limits of its capacity, implement all necessary measures in order to improve the living conditions of people living with HIV. He also announced that the results of the efforts made would be presented on the same day next year.
