The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government of Serbia Kori Udovički stated on 16 November that allocations from the Republic budget for local self-government units will be reduced in 2016. Speaking at the “Improvement of Public Finance Management at the Local Level” event in Belgrade, Udovički said that 2016 will be the “year of resolving the financial status of local self-governments”, and its first quarter is expected to bring about the adoption of the law on financing local self-government units.
The President of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SKGO) Zoran Perišić assessed that the goal of the programme, implemented in partnership by SKGO and the National Audit Institution (DRI), is the improvement of the efficiency of use of public finances at the local level.
The Ambassador of Sweden to Serbia Christer Asp stated that his country, recognizing the importance of reforms in this area, provided EUR 12 million for the implementation of projects in Serbia.
The “Improvement of Public Finance Management at the Local Level” conference was organized by SKGO, in cooperation with DRI and with the support of Sweden and the UN Development Programme.
