On 5 June, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlović chaired the first session of the Coordination Body for Monitoring the Implementation of the Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma.
During this session, where future steps for the improvement of the status of the Roma community in Serbia were defined, Mihajlović announced that the Action Plan for 2017 and 2018 would soon be presented to the Government. This Acton Plan envisages almost EUR 7 million to be allocated for various relevant activities.
The issues faced by the Roma population, she pointed out, were significant for the Serbian Government, which was proven by the establishment of the Coordination Body for Monitoring the Implementation of the Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma (2016-2025).
Mihajlović reminded that the Coordination Body consisted of seven ministers, the Chief Negotiator for Serbia’s accession negotiations with the EU Tanja Miščević, Director of the Office for Human and Minority Rights Suzana Paunović, representatives of the United Nations, European Union, Roma Associations, and others.
Miščević stated that the fact that the Coordination Body was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister showed there was a strong political support for the improvement of the status of this minority community in Serbia.
