The Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted a new regulation on free electricity, gas and heating for the poor. The Government reported that the limit had been doubled for the consumption of electricity for households that used this type of assistance. Also, a simple procedure has been implemented for the users of financial aid and child allowance.
The Government emphasises that the circle of customers who will be able to receive electricity benefits has been widened because the monthly consumption limits doubled, the consumption limit has been increased from two to four times the amount that can be subsidised. More specifically, prior to this regulation, there were 70.000 users while now it is projected that there will be 200.000.
The subsidy is, as was stated in the previous regulation, approved for 120-kilowatt hours per month for one-person households and 250-kilowatt hours for households with six or more members. In order to receive the subsidy up until now, people had to limit their consumption to somewhere between 240 and 500-kilowatthours while now that limit is raised to 480 to 1.000-kilowatt hours.
The poor can count on free natural gas for the period from October to March, in the amount of 35 cubic meters a month for a one-person household to 75 cubic meters for a six-person household, as well as for heating from 25 to 55 cubic meters.
