The Global Initiative “16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence” was marked in Belgrade by announcing joint activities of the Gender Equality Coordination Body of the Government of Serbia and UN Team with regards to the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The Vice-President of the Government Coordination Body Zorana Mihajlović said that 33 women were killed in family violence in Serbia in 2015 and that every victim of family violence is everyone’s responsibility. She said it was necessary to establish a legislative framework that would harmonize family and criminal laws as well as to implement the gender equality strategy and action plan, referring in one part to the elimination of violence against women and girls.
Additionally, interested visitors could visit the Zero Tolerance Zone for Violence in UK Parobrod from November 25 to 30, wherein exhibitions and films on violence against women were organized.
