Office for Human and Minority Rights of the Republic of Serbia has organized a celebration to mark the International Women’s Day under the slogan “Changing the world with our own strength” in the National Assembly House.
Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Committee for Human and Minority Rights Suzana Paunović highlighted that women’s rights and their status in Serbia should be discussed and worked on every day and not only on March the 8th.
Paunović indicated that women represent the most vulnerable group in the labour market, they also represent the majority in the “dependent persons” category, a higher percentage of chronic diseases is recorded among women, among persons with disabilities there are more women than men, in 95% of violence cases the victims are women. Furthermore, she highlighted that, according to current data women, on average, earn 11% less than men, and that they represent the majority of workers in low-income occupations.
The International Women’s Day Celebration was attended by the representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, local government, independent bodies, members of Parliament, successful women politicians, successful women in Serbia, civil society organizations, international organizations and the media.
