The City of Kragujevac, the Belgian City of Gent and the Spanish capital of Madrid are the recipients of the Council of Europe Awards for the most successful programmes in Roma inclusion. The competition, organized by the Secretariat of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, the City of Kragujevac and the Italian region Reggio Emilia won second place, after Gent from Belgium, while Madrid with its project placed third.
The City of Kragujevac and the Educational-Cultural Roma Community “Romanipen” were partners in the project “Strong from the Beginning”, its bearer being the Centre for Interactive Pedagogy of the region Reggio Emilia. The project deals with the improvement of parental skills and home environment for study and development, and one of the project goals is support to Roma parents and other members of the family to achieve their roles more successfully.
The award ceremony will be held on 21 October in Strasbourg, during the 29th session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
