The Regional Housing Programme for refugees (RHP) was officially launched in Stara Pazova on 02 October. The press conference was opened by the Ivica Dačić, the National RHP Coordinator and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The speakers included the EU Ambassador to Serbia, UNHCR Representative in Serbia, OSCE Deputy Representative, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, US Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, Vice-Governor of the CEB and Ambassador of Swiss Confederation to Serbia.
Due to the complexity of the programme in Serbia, the implementation will take place in several sub-projects. The first RHP Serbia sub-project, through which the beneficiary from Krnješevci received the housing solution, is worth more than EUR 2 million and consists of 70 prefabricated houses and 125 packages of building materials. The announcement of 2nd, 3rd and 4th wave projects is expected shortly.
The RHP is the joint initiative of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia i Herzegovina, Montenegro and Republic of Croatia, with the aim to provide housing solutions for 27,000 most vulnerable refugee families (around 74,000 people) in the region. Out of this number, 16,780 families (around 45,000 people) are in Serbia.
The RHP in Serbia is worth EUR 330 million and the overall amount in all four countries is EUR 584 million. The Programme is financed by the European Union, as the biggest donor, the U.S, Germany, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, Turkey, Luxemburg, Cyprus, Romania, Check Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
