On 15 June, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Government of the Republic of Serbia Anamarija Viček and the representative of the international organization “Save the Children” Andrea Žeravčić signed the Memorandum of Cooperation related to the “Accessible and Quality Education for Roma Children” project.
Viček reminded everyone present at the press conference that only 69% of Roma children got enrolled in primary school, out of which only 64% completed their studies. She expressed hope that the Memorandum would increase the coverage of Roma children with preschool institutions and primary schools in Serbia.
She explained that the “Accessible and Quality Education for Roma Children” project would be implemented in the Jablanica District, Pčinja District, and Belgrade and that it would last until 2018.
Žeravčić stated that the aim of the Project was to include children ages 3 to 15, preschool and primary school age, which were outside of the educational system or were at risk of early school leaving.
