The director of the Office for Human and Minority Rights of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Suzana Paunović, said on 5 October that, due to the work of mobile teams for Roma inclusion, by 2015 nearly 1,300 Roma kids were enrolled in preschool institutions.
Paunović, speaking at the meeting of the Intersectoral Working Group for the Development and Support of Mobile Teams in Roma Inclusion, formed two years ago, stated that the plan is for the experience in the work of mobile teams that have proven to be a successful model for intersectoral cooperation at the local level, also to be included in the Roma Inclusion Strategy 2025. Mobile teams are, as she noted, engaged in securing personal documents and better and more efficient access to healthcare, social and other services for the Roma.
She reminded that the teams were founded within the project “We Are Here Together – European Support for Roma Inclusion”, and the experience will be of use for other local self-governments in Serbia as a method to accelerate the resolution of numerous questions and issues faced by the Roma. Paunović also noted that the mobile teams will continue working after the expiry of the project, at the end of the year, something the local self-governments took on as an obligation.
The mobile teams, consisting of representatives of social work centres, the National Employment Service, a pedagogical assistant, healthcare mediator and Roma coordinator, exist in 20 towns and municipalities, with the aim of providing more efficient accessibility of services and use of their rights to their beneficiaries.
