Higher education students from all accredited faculties will be able to take part in the National Student Internships project as of the school year 2018/19, and gain skills and knowledge during their education that will facilitate their employment. The project “My City, My Choice, My Career” is being initiated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, while its drafting will involve local self-governments, student representatives and businesses.
Roundtables will begin in September already in five cities across Serbia, where all stakeholders interested in the labour market gaining the best qualified young people will be able to present their proposals.
Doc. Dr Gabrijela Grujić, Assistant Minister of Education, says that there have already been initiatives by the University of Belgrade to start this type of professional development during studies, but that this is the first time that the Ministry of Education provide support for this kind of an initiative.
– We will coordinate the entire project, provide it with a national framework, and all accredited faculties will be able to join, regardless of whether they are private of public – notes Gabrijela Grujić. The national internship will cover students of higher schools, because for them, due to their vocational education, learning through work is particularly important.
– The project “My City, My Choice, My Career” will endeavour to improve the conditions for student internships. The idea is for these to be paid internships, with the costs of learning through work paid by the companies. Cooperation with students companies will ensure quality human resources that will improve their business and make the Serbian economy more competitive in the global market – explains Gabrijela Grujić.
