European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) has recently published a new study titled “Gender Equality in power and decision-making”. The study is focused on representation of men and women in areas of power and decision-making in the public, economic and social sector in all 28 EU member states from 2003 to 2014. The report also contains examples of initiatives taken by member states to promote participation of women, especially in leadership positions, as well as a depiction of general trends in decision-making in different sectors, such as academical and scientific institutions, media and sports organizations.
The study was conducted at the request of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union, based on this study conclusions were adopted with which the Council invited the European Commission and EU member states to increase their efforts towards promotion of equal representation of men and women in the decision-making process.
