Office for Gender Equality and Support to LGBT Persons Opened in Novi Sad

U Novom Sadu otvorena Kancelarija za rodnu ravnopravnost i podršku LGBT osobamaAssistant Mayor of Novi Sad Ljiljana Koković attended the opening of the Office for Gender Equality and Support to LGBT Persons under the competence of the City Administration for Social and Child Protection.

– It is my great pleasure that we have gone a step beyond in our dedication to equal rights for all citizens, for gender equality and support to LGBT persons. This means that the Network for the Prevention of Discrimination has not only been established formally, but that we are truly undertaking activities to improve support mechanisms for all those in need. This office will be available for all relevant information on exercising and protecting rights in the field of gender equality and support to LGBT persons. However, the Office will be proactively oriented, with regular cooperation with relevant bodies and organizations, starting initiatives, holding discussions, workshops, and all with the aim of reducing negative discrimination in society – said Ljiljana Koković.

A Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed in 2017 within the Local Network for the Prevention of Discrimination and Support to LGBT Persons founded under the project “Together against Discrimination”. The project was implemented by the “Labris” organization and partner organizations Civic Association against Human Trafficking and All Forms of Gender Based Violence “Atina”and the Centre for Research, Transparency and Accountability – “Crta”, with financial support from the US Agency for International Development, and the role of coordinator handled by the City of Novi Sad.

In addition to the City of Novi Sad, the Memorandum was signed by the Social Work Centre, Higher and Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office, Police Administration, National Employment Service, Youth Office, Protector of Citizens, Commission for Gender Equality, Institute for Student Healthcare, Novi Sad Humanitarian Centre, the “Come Out” Association and the Provincial Secretariat for Social Policy, Demographics and Gender Equality.
