Published 31.08.2018.

davanje - ilustracijaIn autumn of 2017, the Foundation “Ana and Vlade Divac”, SMART Kolektiv, Responsible Business Forum, Trag Foundation, Serbian Philanthropic Forum and Catalyst Balkans, in cooperation and with the support of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia and its Corporate Social Responsibility Council, as organisations with a long history of developing culture of giving for the common good in Serbia, established the Coalition for Charity with the aim of improving the conditions and application of individual and corporate philanthropy through cooperation.

The latest data from 2017 show a notable increase with regard to giving for the common good – the amount received through donations was 27.8% higher than the year before, 27 million EUR in total. State support and assistance are key when it comes to the process of strengthening of philanthropic infrastructure, which is essential for further stimulation of charitable giving. The role of the state is to encourage giving for the common good by changing and implementing legal solutions that would positively affect this area.

In order to improve conditions surrounding giving for the common good, cooperation between different actors is necessary, and considering that the public administration support is crucial, the Coalition for Charity had proposed the creation of the Philanthropy Council, which was established by the decision of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, on 23 August 2018.

The aim of the Council is to improve relevant public policies and legislative framework thus developing the infrastructure and culture of giving for the common good in Serbia.
