The organizations Gayten-LGBT, Labris and NDI (National Democratic Institute) held a public presentation of the internet portal DA SE ZNA! (www.dasezna.lgbt) on 19 November. The LGBTI organizations of Serbia started the DA SE ZNA! portal to have one place to register cases and to forward them to the competent institutions obliged to react in accordance with the law. The portal was initiated so that the victims and witnesses could safely report violence and discrimination against LGBTI persons. Due to fear, mistrust in the institutions and because LGBTI persons are not informed about all the forms of support that exist, these incidents are rarely reported. The goal of the organizations starting the portal is informing the public and raising awareness on this serious social issue.
LGBTI persons in the Balkans face discrimination at work, in education and at home on a daily basis. Data from the public survey by NDI from 2015 show that in Serbia 72% of the LGBTI population faces psychological violence, 51% of LGBTI respondents are exposed to discrimination at work or in other places, and 23% were exposed to physical violence due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
