The Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Zoran Đorđević attended the ceremonial signing of the Protocol on cooperation with 15 local self-government units on 22 May. Those present assessed that understanding the needs of vulnerable social groups and the creation of social welfare services accordingly is an important step towards improving the status of not just vulnerable persons, but society in general.
The project aims to improve social welfare services that correspond to the needs of vulnerable groups (persons with disabilities, children, the elderly, women, victims of violence, Roma, migrants, and others). Municipalities will be provided support through measures adapted to their needs, drafted in close cooperation with municipal teams.
The Protocol on Cooperation was signed by representatives of Loznica, Plandište, Užice, Ruma, Sremska Mitrovica, Pećinci, Krupanj, Sjenica, Kosjerić, Arilje, Mionica, Šid, Prijepolje, Lajkovac and Priboj.
The signing was also attended by representatives of Valjevo, Pančevo, Šabac and Vršac, as examples of good practices in the field of social protection.
On this occasion Đorđević noted that amendments to the Law on Social Welfare and the drafting of the Law on Social Cards will represent further steps forward regarding care for vulnerable groups. However, until this happens, support by the German development cooperation, implemented by GIZ, also present in many other projects, is of great importance for all citizens, the Minister said, stating that the cooperation with this organization to date has always been positive.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs and the German-Serbian Development Cooperation project “Social Services for Disadvantaged Population Groups”, implemented by GIZ.
