Reconstruction Women’s Fund published the book “Model of Temporary Housing – From Concept to Implementation through the Example of a Roma Settlement”, created as the result of cooperation between this organization and a group of architectural students.
Following the unprecedented flooding that struck Serbia and the region in May 2014, students of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade started the initiative “New Housing Models for Flood Victims”, aimed at providing assistance from the professional standpoint. The initiative was conceived as a set of professional lectures by professors from the Belgrade University and workshops by architecture students aimed at researching new housing typologies, potential housing scenarios in emergency situations, the potential for implementing projects, etc.
The publication shows the process of cooperation between the students and the Reconstruction Women’s Fund foundation, achieved in order to help residents of the Roma settlement. A detailed overview of the research and work processes enables readers to understand the basic principles that guided the authors, these being: rapid and simple assembly and disassembly of houses, as well as the use of light and cheap materials. The publication contains instructions for building the house for the further application of the project.
The idea of the publication “Model of Temporary Housing – From Concept to Implementation through the Example of a Roma Settlement” is to transfer to all readers the knowledge gained through this experience and to provide them with the possibility to build their prefab building for temporary residence or other needs easily and with understanding.
