State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Dr Nenad Ivanišević, attended the conference “Presentation of a Regional Plan of Reaction to the Refugee and Migrant Crisis”, held at the Media Centre on 23 January.
Ivanišević noted that the Balkans route is not closed and that, for Serbia, the migrant situation is the same as before the official closing of the route. He said that donor assistance is important for our country, to maintain the highest level of care for the migrants. The State Secretary once again emphasized the importance of cooperation between the non-government and governmental sector in providing a timely response to the migrant crisis.
The Head of the IOM Mission to Serbia, Lidija Marković, stated that the plan of reaction for this year aims to help the Government in the further development and operationalization of a comprehensive framework of cooperation regarding specific activities in the field of refugee protection and migration management.
Senior Field Coordinator of UNHCR Serbia Francesca Bonelli stated that Serbia will not remain alone, and that migrants need not only humanitarian aid, but also a hope for the future.
The Plan of Reaction has been divided into four strategic areas, and in addition to humanitarian aid and migrant protection, a separate section relates to support for local self-governments.
