The Viribus Unitis Foundation, in cooperation with the City Association of the Deaf of Belgrade, published the publication “Report on the Status of the Deaf Community in Serbia in the Field of Media, Availability of Interpreter Services and Education”. The report was published as part of the project “Exchange of Experiences – Development of Media for the Deaf”, financed by the International Visegrad Fund with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
The report was drafted so as to briefly introduce the interested public with the status of deaf persons in Serbia. The focus is on three areas representing particularly important indicators for the level of inclusion of deaf persons in broader social trends. These are: receiving and placing sign language information through media, availability of interpretation services and access to sign language education. The authors hope the Report and recommendations will contribute to joint efforts to improve the quality of life for deaf and hard of hearing persons and ensure their active participation in all aspects of social life.
