On the occasion of the International Girls in ICT Day, the research “The Role of Knowledge in the Field of ICT and the position of Women in the labour market” was presented in Belgrade, in April 2014. The research showed that the achievement of gender equality in the field of information and communication technologies is an important economic issue.
According to the latest research on the role of ICT in the status of women in the labour market of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy, there is less than 20% of women in managerial positions in IT companies in Serbia.
Global statistics show that women’s participation in managerial positions contributes positively to the financial success of IT companies, whereas the limited employment of women in, for example, the countries of Asia and the Pacific, incur costs of 42-46 billion USD a year.
According to the World Economic Forum report on gender equality, Serbia ranks on the 42nd place among 136 countries.
Research on the role of ICT in the position of women in labour market, in the framework of the implementation of the National Action Plan for Gender Equality, has been conducted by the Association “Equal Opportunities.”
