The Office for Human and Minority Rights, in cooperation with the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade and as part of the project “Strengthening the Protection of National Minorities in Serbia”, organized the presentation of results related to the implementation of the Action Plan for the Exercise of the Rights of National Minorities on 19 March 2019.
The project produced a Review of the Report on the Implementation of the Action Plan for the Exercise of the Rights of National Minorities, containing recommendations for future improvements in accordance with the standards of the Council of Europe and European Union. The review was produced by experts hired by the Council of Europe, based on periodic reports on the implementation of the Action Plan and based on interviews with persons tasked with drafting the reports in certain bodies, having in mind European standards in this field, and primarily the provisions of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities of the Council of Europe.
The presentation was attended by representatives of state bodies, international organizations, independent state bodies and national councils of national minorities, jointly agreeing that significant progress was achieved since the adoption of the Action Plan regarding the improvement of legislative solutions and their consistent implementation, and the raising of human and material capacities in certain areas of social life where the rights of members of national minorities are being exercised, as clearly documented by reports, while all the recommendations presented by the experts will further improve the reporting process.
