The Ministry of Construction and Urban Planning has adopted the Rulebook on Technical Standards of Accessibility, developed with a view to creating a sustainable built environment accessible to all. The Rulebook introduces the concept of “universal design (design for all)”, which entails designing products, environment, programmes and services in such a way as to ensure their maximum accessibility for all people, without additional modification.
This initiative was launched by the National Organisation of Persons with Disabilities, the Living Upright Centre, the Centre for Independent Living of Persons with Disabilities and the Accessibility Audit Association.
The Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit supported the initiative, as well as the development of the implementation monitoring mechanisms.
